Yonghe Temple

Yonghe Temple is a rare royal monastery of Gelugpa (Huang religion) in Tibetan Buddhism in Beijing. Historically, it was once the residence of Emperor Qingzhen (Yongzheng Emperor), the fourth son of Qing Emperor, and the birthplace of Emperor Qianlong. Later, it was changed to the Huang religion Temple. The incense here is very strong, and there are many precious ancient buildings and cultural relics in the temple, which are worth visiting.

One of the characteristics of Yonghe Temple as a monastery is that it is a fusion of the two major schools of Chinese Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism. When you visit the Yonghe Temple, you can see the big-bellied Maitreya Buddha of Han Buddhism in the Temple of Heavenly King, and in the Falun Temple you can also see the bronze gilt statue of Master Tsongkhapa of Tibetan Buddhism.

Yonghe Temple also contains treasures that are dedicated to the royal family and the temple by the local government of Tibet in the Qing Dynasty. There are numerous Buddha statues, Thangkas, and a large number of precious cultural relics in the temple. Among them, the five hundred arhats carved in red sandalwood, the large Buddhist niche carved with golden silk nanmu dragon, and the 18-meter-high white sandalwood giant buddha are the three masters of the wood carving craftsmanship of Yonghe Temple. The three masters are famous for the Maitreya Buddha in Wanfu Pavilion. It is 18 meters above ground and 8 meters underground. It is carved by a complete ebony wood.

The main building complex of Yonghe Temple is composed of archaeological hall, Zhaotai Gate (Mountain Gate), Tianwang Hall, Yonghe Temple Hall, Yongyou Hall, Falun Hall, Wanfu Pavilion, and Panchen Building and Jietai Building. There are also East and West Halls, Four Academy Hall and other buildings. You can walk along the central axis of Yonghe Temple. The roads in the scenic area are not complicated, and it is easy to find the halls.

In addition to the regular law meetings on the first, tenth, fifteenth, and thirty mornings of the lunar month, Yonghe Temple also has major legal activities every year. During the legal affairs, the number of tourists and believers will increase a lot.
